Health Information & Medical Records Technician
Health Information and Medical Records Technicians assemble, review and complete all patient records for a hospital or health clinic. They assign a code to each diagnosis, using a software program to assign the patient to one of several hundred diagnosis-related groups or DRGs. Technicians who specialize in coding are called health information coders. Some technicians use computer programs to tabulate and analyze data, such as tumor registrars who compile medical records of patients with cancer.
