Biotechnologists use technology and biology to furnish technical assistance to biological scientists. They perform standardized laboratory tests to determine quantity or quality of physical or chemical properties in food products, and to increase scientific knowledge which helps to develop public health and other practical applications. A biotechnologist may perform research to discover cures for diseases. Those findings can be used to develop drugs or other treatments for pharmaceutical companies.
Salary Range: $50,000 – $93,000
Salary Notes: Biotechnologists in supervisory roles or those working in highly controlled settings earn higher wages than those biotechnologists working with a Master’s degree. Biotechnologists who work in genetics and microbiology earn the highest average annual salaries.
